POLICE UNITY TOURChapter VIII |
Your journey to the Police Unity Tour in May has many facets, one of which is raising funds to ensure the continued support of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and the Law Enforcement Museum. As a non-profit, we benefit from many advantages afforded charities. It is important to keep the charity 501(c)3 designation. To that end, this series of links below is designed to help you successfully navigate your donation collection, merchandise and fundraising activities while protecting our tax-exempt status. If you have questions, you are encouraged to contact the treasurer at conniepattersonchapterviii@gmail.com.
A team or individual may not hold, retain or divert funds raised using the tax exempt status of PUT Chapter VIII to cover travel, equipment, events, individual reimbursements or any other cost of doing charitable business. If a team or individual raises funds outside of the tax exempt status, the donations are not tax deductible to the donor and must be reported as income on an individual income tax return.
The bottom line is that all income and expenses associated with doing business as a tax-exempt organization has to be reported properly and with full disclosure. Just one complaint or audit failure may jeopardize the tax exempt status and your ability to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. If you have any questions, contact the Treasurer for guidance or referral.
All money raised for the PUT and NLEOMF are NON-REFUNDABLE.
