POLICE UNITY TOUR

Chapter VIII

  • Rider Training

Proper training will make sure all of our riders reach the goal of riding all 250 miles. Our goal is for everyone to make it safely to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. while also enjoying the ride. Proper training means you have the ability to enjoy the ride in the manner in which it was intended to be. When you arrive in Portsmouth prepared, you will find this to be the most amazing, rather humbling and awe-inspiring experience.

Proper training, what is it and how is it done?

Training can be done on a spin bike or trainer. Training can be done with a group or by yourself. Training can be done via online training videos or through designed training schedules. No matter how you decide to train, within 3 months of the Police Unity Tour you should be riding on the road at least twice weekly at distances that exceed 25 miles. Within 1 month of the Police Unity Tour, you should be riding at least three times weekly at distances that exceed 40 miles.

It is a good idea to track your training so you can see your progress. We recommend you utilize the free Strava app. Once you have established a Strava account please join our “Police Unity Tour Chapter VIII” club. This is a great way for you to connect with other Police Unity Tour riders to see how they are training. It will also allow your Ride Mentor to monitor your progress.

To assist you with your training we have joined forces with Science of Speed. They have put together a Training Schedule specifically designed for the Police Unity Tour Chapter VIII routes (Distances, Elevation, Etc.) as well as the qualifying rides.  A link to this training plan can be found on the right side of this page.
